Aerodromes with AFIS

Aerodromes with AFIS service are:

  • EFET - Enontekiö
  • EFKI - Kajaani
  • EFMI - Mikkeli
  • EFSA - Savonlinna
  • EFSI - Seinäjoki

At Ivalo (EFIV), Kuusamo (EFKS) and Kittilä (EFKT) the controller may choose to provide AFIS instead of aerodrome control service.

When AFIS is provided, the controller is connected with EFXX_I_TWR logon code.

Pilots shall be in contact with AFIS Officers (AFISO) when operating on the maneouvering area or when flying within the FIZ Upper and FIZ lower airspaces.

What is AFIS?

AFIS is the term used to describe the provision of information useful for the safe and efficient conduct of aerodrome traffic at those aerodromes where the provision of aerodrome control service is not justified or is not justified on a 24-hour basis.

AFIS is not an air traffic control unit! An AFIS unit will provide flight information service and alerting service to aerodrome traffic.

AFIS Officers (AFISO) will relay IFR en-route clearances from Area Control, pass information and warnings to pilots. Pilots are therefore wholly responsible for maintaining proper spacing in conformity with the rules of the air.
