ICAO Doc 4444
ICAO Doc 4444 is the official standard for controllers. It is a long long document which sets the required standards. Note that ATS Instructions may be more limiting than doc 4444.
It is however a pure document which notes down the basics of controlling such as separation requirements and approved clearances
Doc 4444 will tell you:
- General rules concerning separation
- General laws concerning controlling
- Basic clearance structure
ATS Instructions will NOT tell you:
- Phraseology
- Local procedures
- Tips and tricks
- Anything VATSIM related
This document is very long, and mostly irrelevant for an S2 student, so we have only included the pages which are relevant. Remember that this is the "mother" document and is where it all originates from, so reading it and understanding it is a vital part of your training.
The documents should be studied as you are waiting to commence Pre-Training (1st Stage). Later once you start training the Pre-Training course will reference these documents from time to time.
