vATIS Download & Setup / Profiles

About this profile

This vATIS profile contains ATIS stations for the following airports:

Before you start, make sure you have vATIS 4 or newer installed. You can download it from vatis.app.

1. Find the profile

The profile is included in the BIRD sector file from GNG (aero-nav.com). Download and install the latest BIRD sector file package from GNG.

You can find the profile file in the sector file folder, inside the Plugins folder under ATIS:

BIRD\Plugins\ATIS\vATIS-Iceland-Greenland.json

2. Install the profile

  1. Open vATIS. The Profiles window opens first.
  2. Click Import.
  3. Go to the BIRD\Plugins\ATIS folder, select vATIS-Iceland-Greenland.json and click Open.
  4. The profile Iceland & Greenland (BIKF BIRK BIAR BGGH) now appears in the list.
  5. Select the profile and click Start (or double-click it) to load it.

3. Using the ATIS

  1. Connect to the VATSIM network with your ATC client as normal.
  2. In vATIS, click the tab for the airport you want to provide an ATIS for (for example BIKF).
  3. Choose the preset that matches the runway in use from the Preset drop-down, for example RWY 28.
  4. If needed, tick any extra airport conditions (for example LOW VISIBILITY PROCEDURES IN FORCE) or add NOTAMs.
  5. Check the ATIS text, then click Connect.

When the runway in use changes, select the new preset. vATIS will update the ATIS letter automatically.

4. Updating the profile

When a new version of the profile is released with a new BIRD sector file on GNG, you need to replace your old copy. Importing the new file does not overwrite the old one; it adds a second copy.

  1. Download and install the latest BIRD sector file package from GNG. The new profile is in the BIRD\Plugins\ATIS folder.
  2. Open vATIS. If a profile is already loaded, disconnect any ATIS and return to the Profiles window.
  3. Select the old Iceland & Greenland profile and click Delete. Confirm the deletion.
  4. Click Import and select the new vATIS-Iceland-Greenland.json from the BIRD\Plugins\ATIS folder.
  5. Select the new profile and click Start.

Deleting the old profile also deletes any changes you made to it yourself (for example your own presets or NOTAMs). Write these down before you delete it, or use Export to keep a backup.

Troubleshooting

  • The profile appears twice: you imported a new version without deleting the old one. Delete the older copy.
  • The Connect button is greyed out: make sure you are connected to VATSIM as a controller and have a preset selected.
  • No weather is shown: vATIS needs a METAR for the airport. Wait a moment, or check that the airport has a current METAR.
